Spring 2007 Onion
Plant Varieties
Onion plants are categorized into three groups, long day, intermediate
day, and short day. During the late spring and summer months, the
length of day becomes longer the further north you are located. Daylength is
critical in the growth cycle of onions. This is why we recommend varieties of
certain daylength for different areas of our country. For more information on
day length please see our Planting and
Growing Guide page.
Short Day Varieties (available until mid to late April) |
 |
Grow best in the southern to mid areas of our country where they
can be planted early. Short day onions begin bulb formation at about
10 hours of day light. |
